The important takeway from this TED primer is that the whole of a DID victim is called a System, the individual personalities are called Alters and that any new trauma has the potential to create new Alters. Sometimes the resultant Cult Alters engage in self-sabotage to foil any external efforts to help the victim. You know, I always wondered what MH diagnosis would be bad enough for Harvey Weinstein to hold over Benedict’s head. Bipolar Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, even Schizophrenia are not uncommon so that can’t be it. DID certainly fits the bill and for more than one reason.
