On 8 June 2007, Havers married Essex native Georgiana “George” Bronfman[10] (née Rita Webb), in New York City. Bronfman is the former spouse of the late Edgar Bronfman, the mother of Sarah and Clare Bronfman, and is known for her charitable work with noted paleontologist Richard Leakey.[11] In 1990, “a brief but tempestuous affair with Lorenzo Ricciardi [spouse of Mirella Ricciardi], an Italian filmmaker in his 60s” had led to him being “arrested in 1990 for trying to kill her.”[12]

Sir Michael Havers was appointed as Attorney General by Margaret Thatcher in 1979, and was made Baron Havers in 1987. He intervened three times between 1981 and 1983 to stop the investigation and exposure of Establishment paedophiles, and to prevent the publication of stories which showed that Establishment figures were members of the Paedophile Information Exchange.
Although none of this implicates Havers’ sister, Baroness Butler-Sloss,in any way, it seems at the very least deeply inappropriate to have someone heading a ‘historic’ child abuse inquiry whose own brother played such a major role in the protection of Establishment paedophiles throughout the 1980s.

A whistleblower who claimed Cabinet ministers enjoyed sex parties with rent boys is to be quizzed by police investigating the Westminster abuse scandal.
Mr Gilberthorpe said one who attended a sex party is a serving minister and that others included Thatcher Education Secretary Keith Joseph, former Attorney General Michael Havers and top Tory Rhodes Boyson.

The need for an inquiry was taken up in the House of Commons by Yorkshire MPs, who also attacked the Attorney-General, Sir Michael Havers, for his role in the prosecution. Sir Michael opened the 15-day trial by telling the judge, Sir Justice Boreham, he did not believe that Sutcliffe was guilty of murder. He told the judge he accepted the view of doctors who diagnosed Sutcliffe as a schizophrenic.
But the judge refused to accept this and yesterday the jury decided that he had murdered 13 women in the Yorkshire area between 1975 and 1980.

The judge who tried the Guildford Four and the Maguire family, Mr. Justice Donaldson, is now Lord Donaldson, Master of the Rolls – that is, head of the English civil law courts. The prosecutor, Sir Michael Havers (now Lord Havers), was later promoted to Attorney General and eventually became Lord Chancellor – the constitutional head of the British legal system and Speaker in the House of Lords. Peter Imbert, a policeman who played a major role in interrogating the Guildford Four and in capturing the real I.R.A. bombers, today is Sir Peter Imbert and, as Metropolitan Police Commissioner for London, holds the most powerful police post in Britain. “From the moment the police caught the real I.R.A. bombers, the authorities knew the Guildford Four were innocent,” says Chris Mullin, a Labor member of Parliament who has campaigned against other miscarriages of justice. “In order to obtain and sustain these convictions, the judicial process had to be bent from top to bottom.”

Havers was a son of High Court Judge Sir Cecil Havers and brother of Baroness Butler-Sloss (born 1933) who in 1988 became the first woman named to the Court of Appeal and later President of the Family Division.
