TIFF Review: Cumberbatch and Shannon can’t keep ‘The Current War’ from being a bore
“Cumberbatch is essentially doing his Doctor Strange shtick here, attempting to pass it off as a workable evocation of a figure whose life, prior to the advent of motion pictures, remains largely unfilmed and essentially unknowable. It’s a boring performance, to say the very least, and the few attempts writer Michael Mitnick makes at the script level at complicating his legacy come across as the standard “great man” horseshit that we get frequently served up in the favor of monstrous assholes.”
Oha. Not a favourable review.
Many don’t understand that toxic people chip away at your very soul. Now the quality of BC’s work is being negatively affected yet he refuses to see it…
And when the quality of work suffers, it’s really time to end it
BC thinks maybe he needs her, the tool and asset and the imaginary kids for his serious appearance. BC cannot be still a single at his age in the eyes of the public. A married family man is taken more seriously when you look at it not too closely. I still don’t know or understand why he doesn’t end that weird showmance. Maybe he still thinks it is useful to keep other interested women away from him or so. @gatorfisch. Others of his colleagues already are reallly married and have real kids. BC doesn’t, but he pretends to have that.
No. He knows he’s in deep shit…he’s just too much of a coward to do what needs to be done.
Exactly. He can’t be single? What kind of nonsense is that? Plenty of celebs are single or divorced, being unattached doesn’t lessen the quality of their work. Being attached to the wrong person can however cause a lot of damage. In BC’s case he’s lost credibility, the esteem of many of his peers and half-ruined his reputation all because of SH’s pathological narcissism. Time after time she was rude to him in public, pressured him into those ridiculous papwalks and pointless interviews about the ShamFam. When she can’t do that she uses two-bit tabs to take potshots at him and hijack his promos. The result? He looks like a spineless idiot who has been all but neutered by his feckless harpy of a wife. Oh yes, very respectable…
