You ask me of the one I desire; what can I say?
Why do, in such madness, I mire; what can I say?
You ask me, with such misery in me,
How strong in your love I would be; what can I say?
I drift with waves in oceans of your love
You ask where I am; what can I say?
You ask me if I fear a visit
To fields of sacrifice; what can I say?
You ask me, what do I seek,
Beyond light, what can I say?
One night suddenly stole from me, Shams of Tabriz,
My incertitude, what can I say?
You ask me, what I do in this cage,
If I am, a free bird, what can I say?
