I’ll use a personal experience, I had and went thru; that I felt was a key to overcoming something that was dragging me down.
Besides the actual physical part of Keeping the Plug in the Jug to help end my desire to drink my problems away. The biggest help and what was KEY to ending this destructive behavior was getting honest with myself.
I looked at what my mind was not trying to think about and why. I got honest with myself, no more escaping or trying to drink my problems away. I consciously forced myself to examine the situation from every angle possible and realized a few things. Some of the things I realized right away and others became more apparent as time went on.
The getting honest part I realized had to be applied to all areas of my life and actually feels good and has helped me in so many areas of my life. I couldn’t and still can’t imagine living my life any other way.
The biggest thing I realized was: the things I was trying to escape were not as bad as my mind was attempting to make them. And once I honestly confronted the issues I realized I addressed the root of the problem and the desire to drink my problems away pretty much diminished right away.
I encourage everyone to get honest and be honest in your daily affairs while examining how things are being construed to prop up, with dishonesty; the agendas and what is actually happening around you.
