So, now that I’ve been in custody of the Shiba Inu that my daughter bought on a whim for a while now, let me share some thoughts:
1) Shibas are complete loves. They are adorable. I think everyone knows this part.
2) Shibas are SNEAKY. And I mean SNEAKY.
3) Shibas are extremely head strong. And this is coming from a lifelong Terrier owner.
4). Shibas are VERY FAST. And I mean LIGHTENING FAST.
5) Shibas are athletic. Just because they are good for apartment dweller doesn’t mean they won’t take off, leaving you in their dust.
Needless to say, after chasing after our Shiba after he played Houdini, I’m looking into training. And I don’t mean PetSmart or group training. I mean, hunting dog training…because that’s what these cute little pups were bred for. (No we won’t be going hunting with him, at least not to shoot anything, but he needs intensive training that the average dog trainer can’t give.
Shibas are wonderful dogs, but you have to respect the breed. Otherwise, you will spend the rest of their lives chasing them.
Doges will also scream like banshees if you try to force them to do anything they don’t like, bathing for example. They definitely have cat software running on dog hardware…
