This whole “oh but we’ve been friends since we were young so I can’t just push them out of my life I need to work at this” is total bullshit and is how toxic people weasle into your life and manipulate you.

Just because you were close as little kids doesn’t mean that person isn’t gonna change into someone you don’t get along with or agree with their morals and values.

So what if you’ve been friends 13 years, you can meet someone tomorrow who you could bond with faster over the important stuff and who might actually value and respect you as a person.

Quit making excuses for toxic people.

It’s important to remember that as some people grow up they do change for the worse. They are no longer the happy-go-lucky playmates of your youth but rather jealous, bitter and hypocritical ‘frenemies’. The best thing to do is to end the relationship by gradually distancing oneself. In cases involving outright betrayal, however, you have to cut them off more abruptly. Don’t waste your time and your loyalty on people who don’t deserve it. You don’t need that type of negativity in your life…
