Oh, there’s more to it than that. Like many social clubs/organizations that have influential and power members, A LOT of deals and favors are done between/for other members. It’s all about networking and using your connections. And the more exclusive the club, the more important the deals. Most use the network and connections for good. But some don’t. Some use the charities involved, as well as the club connections, for more nefarious/criminal acts. We aren’t saying that Freemasons are all evil. At all. We are discussing the possibility that the Hunter Clan used their FM connections (or Benedict’s membership) to their advantage. All it would take is making a deal with someone higher up in the group to gain/keep the upper hand over him.
I’m seeing posts trying to downplay FM’s clout by comparing it to something as harmless as The Rotary Club which is laughable. Are all FM bad? No and many FM do try to live upright lives. However, the FM that join for all of the wrong reasons tend to claw their way up the ranks. These corrupt Master Masons can and have done a lot of harm. Not even Brother Masons are safe! Here are just two examples:

It’s bad enough to be a public concern. I’d also like to add that getting a high-level position within certain sectors can be very difficult without their approval. The relative that found that out happens to be one himself…
