The tickets were free to this event and Oxford doesn’t pay visiting fellows anyway (it’s about freely exchanging knowledge and info with other fellows, teachers and students). My guess is he was supposed to promo TWC this month and is filling up his free time with charity/volunteering mainly, as he’s often done. He did film 5 things this past year so I think a break is fine LOL (TWC, ACIT, Melrose, The Grinch–which is not done yet–and IW).
