I honestly don’t know why anyone is surprised that HR “works for the company” and not the employees. Employees aren’t paying the VP, the company is and the company expects the VP to look out for them. I went through this shit on a personal issue with one of my bosses. It became clear real fast that nobody was going to do anything about my boss but I was free to leave if I didn’t like the situation.
Word. Their main objective is how to make the claim go away. Period.
