The new SM logo is simple but effective. I like how the marching Ms turn the negative space into a sunburst. What’s interesting is how closely it resembles a Schwarze Sonne or Black Sun. It’s ironic from a Jungian perspective and a bit creepy from an esoteric one…
Honestly I don’t like it at all. Zoomed in it’s not catchy or appealing, zoomed out like in avatar size it looks like an anus.

LMAO! Telling isn’t it? You are right in that it doesn’t look all that great as a thumbnail. I think changing the typeface would probably help in that regard. I know I shouldn’t give those cretins any ideas but I may make a mock-up to illustrate my point…
