Benedict Cumberbatch joins elegant wife Sophie Hunter at Buckingham Palace as he’s honoured with CBE from the Queen
It’s been a big year for Benedict Cumberbatch, who married in March and became a father in June.
But the Sherlock Holmes actor, joined by elegant wife Sophie Hunter, was honoured by the Queen on Tuesday as he received a CBE for services to the performing arts and to charity.
The 39-year-old swapped London’s 221B Baker Street for Buckingham Palace after being invested with the accolade in June’s Birthday Honours list.
Wearing traditional morning dress for the ceremony, Cumberbatch declined to be interviewed afterwards.

Trading the big screen for the stage, the actor recently finished a run playing the titular role in Shakespeare’s Hamlet at London’s Barbican Theatre.
As well as playing Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s supersleuth, Sherlock, in the BBC’s popular adaptation, the star was also acclaimed this year for portraying computer scientist Alan Turing in The Imitation Game.
It was a role that saw him nominated for the best actor Academy Award, only to lose out to fellow Briton Eddie Redmayne.
Eddie stole the prize for one of the most talked about roles of the year, as he portrayed Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything.
In his personal life, Benedict tied the knot with long-term love Sophie Hunter earlier this year in March, just two months after they announced their engagement in January.
Continuing their fast-paced run of celebrations, they revealed that they were expecting their first child just two weeks after the engagement news.
Benedict and Sophie became parents in June – the same week the Birthday Honours were listed – saying that they were ‘delighted’ to have welcomed a son.
This year the actor has already been captured filming for Doctor Strange in Nepal, which is due out in 2016.

Jesus, SH posted the GAG announcement in November. ShamWedding with sorbet was on Hallmark Heart Day in other words February 14th. That’s a little over 3 months. Either the writer was suffering from sleep deprivation or they are taking the piss because they got the inside scoop on the ShamWow. I’m inclined to think it’s the latter. Didn’t Valentino Instagram reveal that the wedding was originally scheduled for March? BC didn’t even ‘propose’ with an engagement ring, it looked like HW made him get one. Everything indicated that BC decided to bite the bullet in mid-late January after dragging his feet for months. Stop lying, please.
