Spot on. “But he felt unloved…” and that’s why he tortures/maims/kills innocent people? It’s a little too much like idealization in abusive RL relationships for my liking TBH. I think some villains are fascinatingly complex and as with *any* character written realistically they aren’t going to be entirely evil. That said, most of them are still bastard covered bastards with bastard filling. Let’s not forget that!
