Symbolism in ‘The Last Unicorn’

Unicorns represent freedom, innocence and purity. King Haggard is the ruler of a derelict kingdom. He is an evil and bitter man who finds joy in almost nothing. The Red Bull is a creature used by King Haggard to hunt down and imprison all of the unicorns in the world. The bull then drives the unicorns into the sea so that the king may have them all to himself. They are kept as prisoners in the sea unable to escape. The bull symbolizes Haggard’s monstrous greed and lust for immortality. The bull is also used to represent the use of intimidation to bully and suppress others which Haggard is quite adept at doing.
