Miss Mellon is a renowned London based Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with over 15 years experience in her field. She graduated from University of Glasgow in 1988 (MBCHB) and became a fully qualified member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2001. She had originally trained as a GP in Australia, but returned to Britian to pursue a career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
In her obstetrics practice she deals with anything ranging from complicated caesarean section deliveries to water birth deliveries. All her private patients deliver at The Portland Hospital.
Her gynaecological practice includes major and minor surgery, emergencies, transvaginal scanning of early pregnancy, pre-fertility workup and co-ordination with fertility clinics in USA and other countries for surrogacy & IVF. She is also highly skilled in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery with a particular interest in the treatment of fibroidsv
In her NHS work, she covers all aspects of obstetric and gynaecological care.
Miss Mellon began her Harley Street practice in the rooms of Sir Marcus Setchell in 1999. She set up her own practice in 2006, and more recently founded Claire Mellon and Associates in 2014 based at The Portland Hospital. Outside of her practice work, she is a trustee for Wellbeing of Women, a charity that raises funds for research into women’s health. She holds a number of other leading positions, including principal investigator for International Bayer trials for medical management of fibroids and the Medical lead for Female Genital Mutilation at Whittington Hospital, as well as Obstetric Ward lead. Miss Mellon is also passionate about teaching and was previously Honorary Senior Lecturer at Whittington Hospital for Medical Students.
The daughter of the diplomat Sir James Mellon and Lady Phillipa Mellon, she was born in Copenhagen and grew up in Dakar, Brussels, Berlin, Accra, Copenhagen and New York. She is married and lives in West London with her husband and son.
