His portrayal of Hamlet is receiving rave reviews following its opening night on Wednesday.
So Benedict Cumberbatch was naturally celebrating on Friday night, when he was seen heading to the Groucho nightclub in London.
Friday concluded the week in which the Sherlock Holmes actor’s debuted in the Shakespeare play at the Barbican Theatre and he has already received high praise for the interpretation.
The play, directed by Lyndsey Turner and produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, is the actor’s most prominent stage role to date.
New father Benedict, who also tied the knot with wife Sophie Hunt in March, seemed relived when he let his hair down at the end of the week, seeming to make it a boys’ night without his faithful wife.
He was pictured dashing through London town in jeans and a button down shirt – quite the transformation from his medieval garbs on stage.
Having partied late into the night, the acclaimed actor appeared to embrace two friends and then make a beeline for his waiting ride.
Benedict only just became a father for the first time two months ago and was therefore no doubt relishing the lads’ night out. Heralding his performance as ‘electrifying’, critics were generous in their praise of the Sherlock star and his adaptation of the iconic character.
On Friday night the Barbican’s ticket selling service had crashed as traffic soared from around the world. It has been claimed Broadway scouts were among those in the preview audiences, with the Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye revealing their speculation over whether the play may be brought to New York.
Following his role as Hamlet, Cumberbatch will go directly from Hamlet to shoot the Marvel/Disney film Doctor Strange and, in April, will film three new episodes of Sherlock.
