It would be really good if they cast Aboriginal actresses like say any of these ladies, just suggesting for example:

Deborah Mailman (The Sapphires, The Secret Life of Us, 4-time AACTA award-winner)

Jessica Mauboy (The Sapphires, Australian Idol S4 Runner-Up)

Ningali Lawford (Rabbit-Proof Fence)

Lisa Flanagan (Australian Rules, Redfern Now)

Frances Djulibing (Ten Canoes, Charlies Country)

Shareena Clanton (Wentworth Prison, Miss Fischer’s Murder Mysteries)

Just like with the decidedly non-Asian ‘Ancient One’ in DS you can bet that they will find a way to exclude more PoC. One female AA screenwriter that I met in Hollyweird said that her biggest beef is that interested producers always want her to change the ethnicity and/or socio-economic background of her characters. PoC are good for buying movie tickets and DVDs but not good enough for an adequate percentage of speaking roles.
